LISTENERS across Teesside are set to hear a new voice as the BBC chooses its next presenter of a weekend radio show.

Rianne Thompson has been named as BBC Tees' latest presenter who will head its Saturday show 'BBC Music Introducing on BBC Tees'.

Ms Thompson, who has worked at the station for the past three years behind the scenes, said: "I am really excited to be taking over as Presenter and showcasing new music from around the Teesside, North Yorkshire and Country Durham area."

Ms Thompson will take over from long-serving BBC Music Introducing presenter, Bob Fischer, who has headed the show over the past seven years.

Dan Thorpe, BBC Tees manager, said: "Bob is a hugely passionate ambassador for the local music scene.

"Too many acts to mention have spoken of the thrill of hearing their music on the radio for the first time because Bob recognised their talent and wanted to share it with his audience.

“Rianne is the natural choice to continue Bob’s good work and will put her own stamp on the show.

"As always it’s the incredible local artists that are the real stars.”

Mr Fischer's last BBC Music Introducing show will take place on November 30.

Ms Thompson's first show will air on December 7.
