A POLICE car chase involving a stolen Mercedes ended with its driver crashing on the A66 and suffering serious injuries.
A man in his 20s is receiving hospital treatment for the injuries he sustained in the crash at around 11.30am this morning.
The silver C Class Mercedes, which had been reported earlier as suspected stolen, was being pursued by Cleveland Police after the force had been notified it was travelling into the Teesside area.
A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "As is routine in these circumstances, the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed.
"Cleveland Police has begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
