A WOMAN who threw a glass bottle and smashed a window did so because she was angry, a court has heard.
Rebecca Wahab appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with criminal damage.
Jeff Taylor, prosecuting, said there had been an incident in Wahab’s street with a “gang of youths” which had angered the defendant so she threw a glass beer bottle at a window which smashed a pane of glass.
Bill Davison, mitigating, said: “She was just in the street and had various items taken from her by a group of youths. She did not go out and provoke this herself, it was a reaction to unlawful behaviour.”
Wahab, who has 27 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to one charge of criminal damage on September 29.
The 23-year-old, of Churchill Square, Gilesgate, was sentenced to a six month rehabilitation order. She must also pay £50 compensation for the smashed window.
Christine Ramshaw, chair of the bench, said: “We feel you need that anger management course.
“We have heard some positive things about you but it’s a shame that this has happened.
“We hope that you will work with probation and we won’t see you in court again.””
