POLICE are appealing for information following a robbery at a convenience shop in Thornaby.

Last night, Saturday September 22, a lone male, believed to be in his late teens, entered Best One store, on Vulcan Way, just before 8.45pm.

It is believed he entered with a knife and demanded cash from staff.

Cleveland Police said he left, with a small amount of cash, making off towards the Community Centre and Havilland Road. The staff member was shaken but not harmed.

The force is now asking for anyone with information about the alleged incident to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "The suspect is described as 5’6” tall, wearing a black hoodie possibly with some green on it with the drawstring pulled tightly around his face.

"He was also wearing loose joggers and carrying a black sports rucksack over his shoulder, as well as a JD Sports carrier bag.

"No arrests have been made at this time, however enquiries are on-going.

"We would ask anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen this male to contact police.

"We’d also ask local people and drivers to check their domestic CCTV or dashcam footage to see if he has been captured on film."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Phil Lamb via the 101 number, quoting Event 163171.
