Police have confirmed a Middlesbrough man died following crash that closed A66 near Grangetown last night.

Stuart Briggs, 63, from North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, was taken hospital after the crash at the junction of Church Lane at 6.10pm when a blue Peugeot 206 collided with a lamp post and railings.

Cleveland Police said the driver was pronounced dead in James Cook University Hospital a short time later.

She added: "Our thoughts remain with his family and friends and they would request privacy at this difficult time."
