The southbound carriageway of the A19 was closed this morning following an accident.
A car travelling northbound crashed into the central reservation and crossed over onto the southbound carriageway, colliding with a lorry.
The driver of the car has been taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with unknown injuries.
The crash happened near Ingleby Arncliffe around the area of Exelby Services where yesterday a vehicle collided with a Shell garage sign.
One passing motorist said: "The car looks in a bad way. I could see at least four police cars at the scene and a recovery truck.
"Cars that were already queued behind the crash are being slowly allowed past but others are being diverted off the road."
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We were called at 7.45am to reports of a collision near Exelby Services on the A19. A car travelling northbound crossed over to the southbound carriageway and collided with a lorry."
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance also attended and helped to treat the injured driver, although the casualty was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
The road has now reopened.
