EMERGENCY services rushed to Neasham Road in Darlington on Wednesday afternoon as two men - including one in a wheelchair - were hit by a vehicle.
It happened near the junction with Langdale Road at 1.30pm and the road was shut in both directions for several hours.
Two ambulances attended the scene of the accident and police have closed a section of the road while they dealt with the incident.
A spokesperson from Durham Police said on Wednesday: "Officers were called at 1.30pm today to reports of a collision involving a car and pedestrians in Neasham Road, Darlington.
"It is believed that two men, one of whom was in a wheelchair, were struck by a vehicle. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
"Paramedics have also been called to the scene."
