A FUNERAL home is asking for donations as it prepares to launch its 'Memory Box' scheme to help trigger memories of those living with dementia.

Co-op Funeralcare in Guisborough is about to launch its initiative which will see Memory Boxes taken to care homes and day centres across the town.

The contents of each Memory Box will be made up of donations of memorabilia, and will be used to prompt conversations with dementia sufferers to talk about their lives and reminisce about the past.

Julee Brynes, funeral director at Co-op Funeralcare in Guisborough, said: “The Memory Boxes will give us the opportunity to support those living with dementia in our community.

"Not only do they help raise awareness of dementia, they’ll also help us to engage with people who wouldn’t usually communicate easily with others.

“We’re currently looking for donations from local residents to include in our Memory Boxes.

"Whether it’s an old shilling or a football programme from the 1900’s, all donations are greatly appreciated.’’
