PLACES are still left for a fun run round a nature reserve.

Durham Wildlife Trust will hold this year’s annual Run Rainton event on Saturday, August 17 at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve, near Houghton le Spring.

Participants will receive ecologically-friendly wooden medals.

Beginning at 10.30am, the 5k trail fun run will take runners over a challenging circuit of the reserve, including Nicholson’s Hill.

Advanced entry is £10 and places must be booked in advance. Ages 6 plus are welcome, under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. There will also be stalls including tombola and cake sales, fundraising for the Trust on the day. The entry fees for Run Rainton go directly to Durham Wildlife Trust, enabling the charity to manage Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve as well as 36 other reserves from the Tees up to the Tyne.

Trust Membership Development Officer Emily Routledge, herself a keen runner, said: “Run Rainton is always a popular event. Events like these give people an opportunity to get out into the open air and appreciate the spectacular flora and fauna on the reserve, which is particularly impressive at this time of year.”For details and to book a place visit
