A MAN has appeared in magistrates’ court charged with murder after a man was fatally stabbed.
Mohammed Rahman appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Friday accused of the murder of Alan Stokoe, in Chester-le-Street.
Mr Stokoe, 26, died in Melville Street in the early hours of Sunday morning after suffering stab injuries.
Mr Rahman, a 42-year-old from Eamont Gardens, in Hartlepool, spoke only to confirm his name and address.
The chairman of the bench Lorraine Overton said: "Mohammed Rahman, this case must now go to the crown court.
"It will go to Newcastle Crown Court on Monday at 10am.
"Thereafter there will be a hearing on August 21."
Mr Rahman was remanded in custody.
