THE fire service were called after a large hedge fire gripped a car and outhouse on a residential street in Darlington.
At around 12.42pm on Thursday, the fire service attended the fire on Barmpton Lane.
The fire service said hedge area, a car and an outhouse building had been alight by the time they arrived to the scene.
A spokeswoman for the County Durham & Darlington Fire Service said: "We received a call at 12:42 yesterday afternoon and we sent two appliances from Darlington.
"We extinguished the fire using a hosereel and a jet."
The fire service said the fire was put out shortly after 4.30pm and fire officers went back at 7pm to check that the it had not re-ignited.
