AMERICAN military vehicles, vintage ambulances and historic motors are rolling up for the largest one-day classic car rally in the North this month.

More than 1,500 vehicles are expected to descend on Newby Hall near Ripon for the 30th Historical Vehicle Rally on July 21.

And organisers say that this year it promises to be the biggest yet.

The rally is organised by the Bishop Auckland Branch of NECPWA and has grown in size year on year.

There is a hugely diverse selection of transport on show and many of the exhibitors even get ‘into character’ and turn up in vintage costume to match their car.

Row upon row of gleaming cars, arranged by manufacturer and model, have proved to be a huge draw for visitors over the last three decades and the rally appeals to serious enthusiasts, with auto-jumble stalls selling sought-after parts.

Newby Hall's commercial director, Stuart Gill, said: “The Historical Vehicle Rally is an event not to be missed.

"The event has grown in popularity each year, and is a firm favourite with our visitors, with over 5,000 visitors last year.

"The grandeur of Newby Hall creates the perfect backdrop to complement these stunning classic cars.”

The rally is open from 10am to 5pm, and admission adults £14 and children £11.

The admission price includes entry into the car rally and to Newby’s Gardens and Adventure Playground.
