THE award-winning production of Cabaret is coming to Sunderland Empire theatre, it was announced this week.

The Bill Kenwright production of Kander & Ebb’s musical, directed by Rufus Norris, will play at the venue from January 28 to February 1 next year.

John Partridge stars as Emcee, Anita Harris as Fraulein Schneider and Kara Lily Hayworth as singer and screen icon Sally Bowles.

The production has enjoyed two smash hit West End runs at The Lyric and The Savoy theatres.

Partridge, winner of Celebrity MasterChef 2018, is well known to TV audiences as EastEnders’ charismatic Christian Clarke and one of West End theatre’s most prolific leading men (A Chorus Line, Chicago, and La Cage Aux Folles).

Kara Lily Hayworth stars as Sally Bowles following her spectacular performance in the title role of Cilla The Musical which was revered by both critics and audiences alike.

They are joined by Anita Harris, who first rose to fame as a singer in the 1960s and has appeared both on screen (Follow That Camel and Carry on Doctor) and on stage, most notably as Grizabella in the West End’s Cats.

The show is set in 1931 Berlin, where the legendary Bowles is about to take stage at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.

The production is presented by Bill Kenwright, and opens at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre from August 28 before setting off around the country.

It features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and iconic songs, including ‘Money Makes the World Go Round’, ‘Maybe This Time’ and ‘Cabaret’.

Critically acclaimed Rufus Norris (Director of The National Theatre) directs, and the show features the Olivier Award-winning choreography by Javier De Frutos.
