MUSIC FANS can enjoy a whole host of classical performances at an open-air concert this weekend.

Proms in the Park returns to Bents Park, South Shields, on July 7, as part of the South Tyneside Festival, organised by South Tyneside Council.

Performers include South Tyneside Orchestra, guest soloist Sarah Fenwick– who is classically trained and studied at the Sage, Gateshead– and the newly formed choir group, Choirmaster, which covers a range of different genres of music and is made up of singers ranging from 18 to 80 years-old.

On Saturday, a carnival-style parade will end at Bents Park for an afternoon of free entertainment.

The Sunday concert series will feature Marti Pellow on July 14, Lightning Seeds and Phats and Small on July 21, Midge Ure and Nick Heyward on July 28 and Gabrielle on August 4.

Concerts are free but prime spots can be reserved for £6. Tickets available at ticketmaster.co.uk/southtynesidefestival on 0844-8440444 or at Shop @ The Word in Market Place, South Shields.
