A DRUNKEN young man had a lucky escape when he was found asleep on a grass verge at the side of the A66.

The reveller was discovered by members of Cleveland and Durham Roads Policing Unit in the early hours of this morning.

The force said: "Police received a call this morning of a male asleep on the grass verge to the A66 on slip at Middlesbrough.

"The male was heavily intoxicated and very worse for wear after a night out.

"Thankfully the male was taken home and not to A&E and will be waking up with a sore head and no doubt an ear bashing from his parents.

"On a safety note, please enjoy your nights out but ensure that you drink sensibly. If one of your friends is worse for wear, ensure that they get home, even if it means you cutting your night short. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and regret can last a lifetime."
