A MOUNTAIN biker who was seriously injured following a crash has thanked the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA).

The biker sustained a broken scapula, a bleed on the brain, nerve damage to his eye, a dislocated finger, a broken shoulder blade, bruising to his jaw and face and other numerous cuts and bruises.

He was helped by medics from the GNAA and has thanked them for their help.

Mr Astbury and his wife Sally met Dr Chris Johnson who treated him after the bike crash in Hamsterley Forest in 2017.

Mr Astbury is still recovering from his injuries, but managed to take part in the Hamsterley Beast with his sons last year, where they raised the most money for GNAAS.

The family were awarded a prize of a mountain biking or road cycling weekend kindly donated by Saddle Skedaddle, which they decided to donate as an auction prize for the Air Angels Ball.

At the auction it raised £220 and was bought by Richard Powell of Ravensworth, who has been involved in the rebranding of GNAAS.
