FIREFIGHTERS attended the scene of a first floor flat fire which started in the early hours of this morning.
The alarm was raised at 3.44am and emergency crews despatched to the scene of the fire at High Street, Willington.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service sent three appliances- from Crook, Bishop Auckland and Durham- to the incident.
Breathing apparatus, hose reels and specialist fans were used to tackle the blaze and smoke.
At 4.33am it was confirmed that there were no casualties but one fire engine remained at the scene, using a single hose reel to ensure the blaze was extinguished.
Fire crews left the scene at 7.33am this morning.
It is not yet known what caused the fire.
Police and the fire service are investigating the incident.
