VANDALS have defaced a hairdressing salon by painting obscene graffiti.

The popular Trimmers hairdressers in Bishop Auckland was covered in red paint devastating staff and customers.

The business has been owned by Jean Wombwell for over 40 years.

She said the incident was upsetting and left a black mark on the salon.

She said: “I just think it’s awful this has happened.

"The staff and our respectable customers are the victims."

The graffiti has since been cleaned and the salon is open as usual.

A spokeswoman from Durham Constabulary said officers are investigating the incident and working to identify the suspect.

Police believe the vandalism took place sometime on Sunday, May 12.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
