AN increase in youth anti-social behaviour has sparked a zero tolerance approach by police.
Officers in Shildon said there has been an increase in the amount of youth related anti-social behaviour in the town over the past few weeks.
They said groups of youngsters have been gathering on Millennium Green and to the rear of Tofs (The Factory Shop).
A police spokesperson said: "Youths found to be drinking and causing anti-social behaviour in the town will be referred to Social Services.
"Anyone over the age of 18 who is found to be buying alcohol for anyone underage could face prosecution. Where criminal offences are identified or disclosed, arrests will be made.
"Shildon NPT urges parents, carers and guardians to take an active part helping to deter such behaviour within the local community."
