A LUMBERJACK has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a falling tree in remote woodland.
The 32-year-old was injured at around 11am on Wednesday, with emergency services called to help the stricken man in forest around Arden Hall, Hawnby, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
A doctor and paramedics from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance provided medical treatment on the scene and were supported by 12 members of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team.
Other members of North-East mountain rescue teams who were on an advanced first aid course in the area with the Cleveland group also joined efforts to help the man.
The injured lumberjack was carried by mountain rescue personnel out of the valley and then 200 metres along a forestry track to a waiting Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter.
The incident lasted around 90 minutes and involved 24 mountain rescue members from six mountain rescue teams. It is the 17th incident Cleveland rescuers have responded to this year.
