A MAN has been appeared in court after police seized drugs with a street value of £100,000 from a car in Newcastle.
Officers stopped a black Seat Ibiza on St Oswald’s Green in Walker at about 2.20pm on Thursday and a search of the vehicle uncovered a shopping bag containing a 2kg block of white powder.
The drugs have been sent off for forensic testing but it is estimated that they could have a street value of up to £100,000 depending on the purity of the suspected cocaine.
The 28-year-old driver was arrested and charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
He appeared before magistrates in Newcastle on Saturday morning where he was remanded in custody to appear before the Crown Court on May 20.
Detective Inspector Graeme Barr, of Newcastle Central CID, said: “This was a great seizure by officers of what is suspected to be a very significant amount of Class A drugs.
“We will continue to do everything we can to clean up our streets.”
