FOOTBALLING legend Ivor Broadis has died at the age of 96.
Broadis, who played for both Newcastle United and Sunderland, represented England at the 1954 World Cup.
Prior to his death, which was announced earlier today, he was Newcastle, Sunderland and England's oldest surviving player.
Broadis was born in London, but began his career with Carlisle United in 1946, in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War.
He joined Sunderland in 1951 and spent two full seasons on Wearside, scoring 25 goals in 79 matches.

An inside forward, he moved to Manchester City from Sunderland, before making the switch to Newcastle in 1953.

He spent two seasons at St James' Park, and won 14 caps for England, scoring eight goals.
He spent his retirement living in Carlisle, and worked as a football reporter after he hung up his boots.
