A LOCAL golf club is encouraging new members to take advantage of its reasonable fees and fantastic facilities.

Oakleaf Golf Complex, in Newton Aycliffe, boasts a challenging 18-hole course, well-equipped driving range, and a well-stocked golf shop.

From April 1, 2019, an adult seven-day membership is only £385 (£340 for five days), and just £340 (or £290) for over-60s. Young players aged 19 to 24, in full-time education or on an apprenticeship, pay only £125 a year, and under 18s pay £50 or less.

Golf Administrator, Marie Thompson, says: “Our prices remain, by far and away, the lowest in the region, providing members with assurance that they are getting fantastic value for money.

“It is an interesting - and a bit tricky - well laid-out course, that welcomes players from Aycliffe, surrounding areas, and further afield. We would urge potential new members to come and see what we have to offer, and any renewing members will receive three vouchers to enable them to bring friends to try the facilities.”

You don’t have to be a member to play, as adults who fancy just dropping in for a ‘pay and play’ round will only pay £13 on weekdays during the summer, with juniors and over-60s at £10*.

Equipment hire is available, and club hire caters for men, ladies, juniors and left-hand players. Trolley hire costs just £3, and if you want to save your energy for hitting the ball, you can rent a buggy from £12.50 members, non-members £15.

Get your eye in by hitting a few balls at the 18-bay, floodlit driving range, with multiple targets and nets; distance markers to test your driving length; and skills challenge posts. A ball dispenser provides a large basket of 100 balls for £4.50, and a small basket of 45 balls for £2.50.

To improve your game, the golf complex also has a visiting PGA professional who offers lessons on a Monday and Saturday, and can be contacted at givensgolf@aol.com, or by phoning 07753 807709.

Oakleaf’s on-site golf shop sells everything from tees to electric trolleys, and provides a club repair and regrip service.

Finally, after a good day’s golf, you can swap stories over a drink and something to eat in the bar and restaurant at the adjacent Oakleaf Sports Complex.
