POLICE investigating a suspected hit and run which left a pedestrian with serious injuries have arrested a man in connection with the incident.
The Northumbria force has been keen to trace a suspect in relation to the incident in Hetton-le-Hole town centre in the early hours of Saturday February 23.
A report was received of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Front Street, at about 1.12am.
The vehicle involved was then said to have left the scene without stopping.
A 21-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remained in a critical but stable condition.
Police subsequently arrested a 17-year-old man in connection with the incident and he was released “under investigation”.
But a second arrest has now been made and a 20-year-old man was said to be in police custody in relation to the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Northumbria force, on 101, quoting reference 90 230219.
