A WELL-known skatepark has announced that it will close its doors for good by the end of the month.

The R-Kade skatepark, on the seafront at Majuba Road in Redcar, said the decision to close after 19 years was taken because it is no longer financially viable.

On Facebook, management said: "It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closure of the skatepark after 19 years.

"This decision has not been taken lightly.

"We would like to thank all of our customers from past and present for the support over the years and we would like to wish everybody all the best for the future."

The last day of opening will be Sunday, March 31.

Management added: "A decision made which is the hardest we have ever had to make. We want to take this time to thank absolutely everyone who've supported us through the 19 and a half years we have been going. We hope to see you all at some point in the last three weeks of the park being open.

"Thank you all again and its been our pleasure to serve you guys over the years and hope to see you all one last time. Lets make one last set of memories to take with us."
