A TEENAGE girl was seriously injured after she was struck by a car.

Emergency services were called out after the 15-year-old was hurt just before teatime on Wednesday.

She was in collision with a Vauxhall on Institute Terrace East, in Perkinsville, near Pelton, Chester-le-Street, which left her unconscious.

The girl was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, for treatment after the incident.

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 4.08pm on Wednesday to a young female patient who was unconscious after being involved in a road traffic collision in Institute Terrace East.

“A double-crewed ambulance, a HART vehicle, a rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance doctor were sent to the scene and the patient was taken to the RVI, with the air ambulance doctor accompanying the patient in the ambulance.”

Officers from Durham Constabulary are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
