AN ICONIC modern steam locomotive built in the North-East has made her first journey along a historic North Yorkshire line.
A £3m project to build the No. 60163 Tornado in Darlington was completed in 2008 with the loco thundering over railways across Britain ever since.
However, she only made her first visit to the Wensleydale Railways this week as she arrived at Leeming Bar Station on Wednesday night.
Tornado will carry passengers across the Wensleydale line two times this year and completed a test run last night ahead of her first passenger service at 10.30am this morning.
Richard Brown, Wensleydale Railways general manager, said: "We are delighted to welcome such an iconic loco to Wensleydale Railway not just once but twice in 2019.
"What a fantastic way to launch our 2019 season.”
Tornado will hail two trains on Saturday, at 10.30am and 2.15pm, before her final service on Sunday.
The Darlington-built loco returns to Wensleydale on May 12, before leaving on June 5.
