POLICE have confirmed that the death of a woman near to Newcastle United’s football ground is not, now, being treated as suspicious.

A report was received of the discovery of the body of a female in a car park near to St James’ Park, Newcastle, at 2.36am on Friday.

Emergency services attended and confirmed the death of the woman, who is believed to have been sleeping rough.

An investigation was subsequently launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, and following those inquiries, the Northumbria force has reported that it is satisfied there was no third-party involvement in the woman’s death.

A formal identification process is taking place, and a report will then be passed on for the Newcastle coroner.
