A SUSPECTED cannabis farmer tried to escape from police by climbing out of a window during a drugs raid.

More than 300 cannabis plants were seized from a property in County Durham during the raid earlier this week.

On Wednesday morning, officers executed a warrant at a property in Park Road, South Moor, in Stanley.

Durham Constabulary said the property was being used as a cannabis farm.

During the operation, a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis after trying to escape via a rear window.

He remains in police custody.

A force spokesman said: “The warrant was carried out as a result of information received from the local community.

“To take action against organised crime we rely on members of the public who come forward with vital pieces of intelligence.

“If anyone has any concerns about potential drug production or drug dealing in their area, please get in touch."

Reports can be made to Durham police via 101, or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
