A GYPSY is bracing himself for his second night on the streets in sub-zero temperatures in a bid to raise funds for the homeless.

Jack Harrop, 21, set off on his mission with his friend Jack Oliphant and dog Empress, in Middlesbrough yesterday.

The pair had only sleeping bags and what they could carry to keep warm for the 48-hour challenge, which they are documenting along the way.

Mr Harrop, of Bishop Auckland, said he would be living exactly as the homeless do and has already smashed his £500 target.

The pair visited a homeless shelter yesterday and camped out with a makeshift fire last night.

And with temperatures set to plummet, the pair are bracing themselves for another night while Mr Harrop's father collected Empress today.

Mr Harrop said: "It has been a little cold but we had a fire to keep us warm a real eye opening experience to both of us, today is a lot colder than yesterday we are really wrapped up today.

"We have been sat down with a cup for people to put money today and we managed to get just over £10 it took us about hour and half to earn we are doing good and are very confident and ready to finish."

Mr Harrop said the pair treated themselves to sausage rolls with the money they earned but were trying to save as much as they could. He has also tried busking by using his singing talents.

The pair will be finishing the challenge at 11am tomorrow.
