THE spectacular Gisborough Priory is preparing to welcome some of the world’s most talented musicians to its ancient grounds with an outdoor classical concert to remember.

Tickets have just gone on sale for Proms in the Priory as the celebrated London Gala Orchestra returns to the magnificent surroundings of Gisborough Priory on Sunday, July 28.

The open air concert will be packed full of classic melodies which will entertain the whole family from the opening notes right through to the rousing proms finale.

A rich and varied programme will include classic hits such as Blue Danube, Stars and Stripes, Colonel Bogey Dam Busters, 633 Squadron, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory, Sailors Hornpipe, all of which will create a magical evening of music concluding with a stunning firework finale.

A picnic style event, music lovers can bring their own food and drink and enjoy a fantastic night of live entertainment also featuring top soprano Natasha Day.

The Scottish Polish soprano won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music from where she graduated with First Class Honours. A recipient of the Midori Nishiura Award, she studied on the postgraduate course at the RCM and went on to train at the English National Opera. She completed her studies at the RCM’s International Opera School (RCMIOS) in 2015, where she was a Fishmongers' Company Scholar supported by a Robert McFadzean Whyte Award, under the tutelage of Dinah Harris.

A prolific performer, her operatic roles include Violetta La Traviata (ROH Reimagined, Royal Opera House), Poppea Agrippina (English Touring Opera), Neala Moniuszko’s Paria (Polish Opera in London), Gilda Rigoletto (Devon Opera), Donizetti’s Rita (Rocket Opera), Helena Puck at the world premiere of Benjamien Lycke and Mahlon Berv's contemporary opera, Lisetta La Gazzetta and Miss Wordsworth Albert Herring and Le Feu/Le Rossignol (RCMIOS).

Coun Carl Quartermain, the Culture, Tourism and Communications member for Redcar and Cleveland, said: “Last year Proms in the Priory was a fabulous inclusion to our busy events programme. What we witnessed was a spectacular show unlike any other I have had the pleasure to attend which the audience enjoyed immensely. The show culminated with a traditional suite of Elgar and the embracing sea of Union Jack waving revellers.”

Conductor Stephen Ellery again will take the London Gala Orchestra through the popular ensemble of classics.

A spokesman for the orchestra said: “After last year’s debut, our musicians are thrilled to be returning to present another spectacular outdoor proms concert.

“Being based in London means that a trip to the Guisborough area is a real treat. Last year, players found lots of reasons why performing at Guisborough is so special. The glorious countryside and fresh air are at their very best in July and performing in the unique setting of Gisborough Priory, with special lighting and fireworks, is a truly memorable experience.

“As soon as you enter the North East the friendliness of everyone becomes very apparent. Whether it’s the hotel or shop staff, people at the local pub, concert stewards or audience, they all make a special effort to ensure we have a memorable visit.”

Since the summer the London Gala Orchestra has continued with its busy schedule. Most recently it performed for a special Polish Commemoration Concert to mark a hundred years since the liberation of Poland, staged at London’s Royal Albert Hall in front of a packed audience of 5,500.

Gates open at 6pm with the main programme starting at 7.30pm, an interval from 8.30pm to 9pm and the finale finishing at 10pm.

Limited family group tickets are available and admission is free for children under four.
