THE driver of a Range Rover has been banned from the roads for almost two years after he crashed while just under three times the drink-drive limit.
Mark Dunningham, 51, of Stotsfieldburn near Rookhope, County Durham, crashed on the A689 near Eastgate and failed a roadside breath test. He pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe.
Emma Shea, prosecuting, said the driver of the other vehicle provided a statement in which he said the Range Rover had been on the wrong side of the road after taking a bend. The court was told Dunningham had been suffering from liver cancer and was on strong medication.
Magistrates banned him from driving for 23 months, fined him £384 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £38.
