A MAN is due to go on trial for sexual assault.
Selvaraatham Nallathamby appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty to a single charge of sexual assault on a female aged over 16.
Mr Nallathamby was represented by Sam Brewster, of CW Booth solicitors.
He confirmed his name, date of birth and address at Bouch Street, Shildon.
The charge relates to an incident that allegedly happened in Shildon on January 7, 2019.
A bail application was made by Mr Brewster but the magistrates decided to remand Mr Nallathamby into custody.
Magistrate David Carr confirmed the 48-year-old would be remanded until his trial at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on March 4.
He will next appear for trial on that day at 10am.
