POP superstar Jess Glynne will perform in Darlington next summer.

The popular singer is already looking forward to taking to the stage at The Northern Echo arena, where she will appear on Friday, August 2.

Thousands of excited fans are expected to flock to enjoy an outdoor performance that will see the much-loved North London singer perform hits including Hold My Hand and Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself.

Tickets for the gig, which is the latest in a series of large scale events to be held at the arena, will go on sale on Friday, December 21 at 9am.

In a message to her Darlington fans, signed with a kiss, Jess said: “See you next year, Darlington! Get your tickets now! Big love!”

Jess Glynne first rose to prominence in 2014 after featuring on UK number one singles Rather Be by Clean Bandit and Route 94’s My Love.

She quickly built up her own fan base with what is described as “her instantly familiar, rousing vocal styling and stamp on pop, soul, R&B and house.”

Her debut album I Cry When I Laugh debuted at number one in the UK albums chart in 2015 and brought about international acclaim.

It was followed by second album Always In Between, which also shot to number one and featured the hits I’ll Be There and All I Am.

The popular performer is currently the only female solo artist to have had seven number one hits in the UK singles chart.

Her appearance at The Northern Echo Arena will see her follow in the footsteps of acts including Elton John, who staged a gig there in front of 17,000 people in 2008.

Steps and A-ha also played to huge crowds at the venue last summer.

Group Managing Director for Mowden Park RFC and Darlington Arena, Lee Rust said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Jess to Darlington for summer 2019 following her US tour. It should be another fantastic event for the town and region to enjoy, with the early-bird prices representing excellent value to see an internationally renowned performer.

"We’ve been working closely with Darlington Council and the Tees Valley Combined Authority to attract and host high profile events in recent years. This represents the third year in a row of consistently securing major music artists through Liz and her LHG Live team, which has become a first-class partnership for us. It all forms part of a long term plan to build the Arena’s reputation and stakeholders delivering a world class event venue in the Tees Valley.’’

The Darlington concert, which is expected to sell out quickly, will form part of a tour that will take her around the country, where she will play to crowds in places including Nottingham to London, Wales and Yorkshire.

She will embark upon the string of gigs fresh from having supported The Spice Girls on their Spice World reunion tour, which comes to the North-East for one night only in a show scheduled to take place at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Thursday, June 6.
