ONLINE hoaxers sending bomb threats should be ignored, police say.
Scammers have been sending threatening emails to people across the region and further afield, according to North Yorkshire Police’s Digital Investigation and Intelligence Unit.
The emails demand payment via Bitcoin and say if it is not received, a bomb will be detonated.
A spokesman for the force urged recipients not to panic and to simply delete the correspondence.
They took to Twitter this morning to warn the public, saying: “There’s a new wave of bomb threats going round today.
“Email is non-specific, threat is not credible and is a scam.
“Don’t panic, don’t pay, just delete.”
