TWO people were taken to hospital on Monday following a crash which closed a road in Darlington.

Emergency Services were called to Geneva Road in Darlington following a collision between a taxi and a Vauxhall Insignia.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital, although they only suffered minor injuries.

Durham Police, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and the North-East Ambulance Service were all called to the collision, which witnesses say happened around 3pm.

Around a half-mile section of Geneva Road was closed to motorists following the incident to allow police investigation work to take place.

PC Garside from Spennymoor Road Policing Unit said: "There were two vehicles involved, a taxi and the Vauxhall Insignia.

"Both drivers have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Any witnesses are asked to call the non emergency number 101."
