A MAN at the wheel of a car which shunted into a family vehicle, causing it to career down an embankment, off the A1(M), has admitted dangerous driving.

Daniel Andrew Pennick previously denied the charge, plus failing to provide a breath specimen and possessing a class B drug, all arising from the collision involving his Mercedes A180 and a Renault Scenic.

The accident took place on the southbound carriageway, just south of junction 61, at Bowburn, near Durham, shortly before 6am, on Sunday April 29.

Although the Renault vehicle ended on its side, in undergrowth, none of the family of five occupants were injured.

Pennick, 26, of Hardwick, Stockton, pictured above, changed his plea and admitted dangerous driving after arriving late at Durham Crown Court on the day of trial. He was remanded in custody to be sentenced today.
