A TOURIST spot within a historic station is appealing for people who remember the building from its time as a working transport hub.

The Station, Richmond, is launching a new project ahead of the 50th anniversary of the station's closure in March 2019.

It will be marked by a special exhibition of photographs, maps and artefacts alongside audio recordings of people’s stories.

Communications coordinator Jemma Gregory said: “We are so excited to be commemorating this special occasion.

"We have so many visitors who come into the building and tell us all about how they remember travelling from here or how family members worked here so it will be fantastic to gather these stories together, paying tribute to the past whilst looking forward to the future.”

The Station have taken on the media expertise of Philip Day from Harrogate College – who also happens to be a railway enthusiast – to help curate the exhibition, which will run from March 2 to 19, 2019.

Free heritage tours will also take place around this time to give visitors and locals a chance to experience the history of the building.

If you have a story to share, no matter how big or small, come to The Station on either December 4 or 11 between 10am and 3pm.

If possible bring a photograph of you at the approximate age you were at the time of your story.

If you are unable to make either of these dates but are happy to tell your story, email your words to comms@thestation.co.uk.

For more information on the exhibition contact The Station on 01748-850123 and ask for Jemma or Thea.
