A CORONATION Street star will switch on Hartlepool's Christmas lights on Friday.

Soap fans will be able to meet Brooke Vincent, aka Corrie's Sophie Webster, when she headlines an evening of festive entertainment at Church Square.

Between 4.30pm and 7pm, visitors to Hartlepool can enjoy performances from 'ramshackle hipster-hop' duo Pek & Wanley, Miss Toni's Academy Choir, singer Channy Thompson and Durham band North Road before Ms Vincent sets the lights to sparkle.

The cast of panto Cinderella, being staged at the Town Hall Theatre this winter, will also be on hand to help usher in Christmas.

The lights will be turned on at 6.30pm and there will be opportunities for Coronation Street fans to have their pictures taken with Ms Vincent, who was also a Dancing on Ice finalist.

The evening of "festive, fun entertainment" is free and will be hosted by BBC Tees presenters Neil and Amy.
