ANOTHER man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a fatal fire.

Patryk Mortimer, 39, died in a fire in Easington Lane, in Tyne and Wear, which happened in the early hours of Saturday, November 3.

Four people are now in custody as detectives investigate the blaze which started at the Manor House premises, on High Street.

Northumbria Police said on Friday night a 34-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and brought in for questioning.

This followed arrests on Thursday of a 21-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, who were also detained on suspicion of murder.

They remain in custody and continue to assist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: “Over the last 48 hours we have arrested four people in connection with this investigation and enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances behind Patryk’s death.

“Our discussions with those individuals will continue over the weekend.

"I would like to thank the public for their support and cooperation over the last fortnight as we look to piece together events that led to this tragic incident.”

Mr Mortimer died after he was found unconscious inside the former care home building. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two men who were arrested on November 4 in connection with the fire remain under investigation pending further enquiries.
