AN ONLINE cannabis oil seller is opening its first mainland UK shop in Darlington tomorrow.

CBDOilUK.com opens its doors in Darlington’s Cornmill Shopping Centre this Saturday.

The shop is dedicated to just selling products which contain highly concentrated amounts of CBD, or Cannabidiol, which is part of the cannabis plant that carries all the benefits without producing the ‘high’.

CBD Oil is said to help with many conditions from arthritis to acne and epilepsy, although the products are currently sold as health supplements, meaning they cannot make any claims.

Director of Belfast-based CBD Oil UK.com, Kurtis Taylor said some customers used the products for mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

He said: “The fact of the matter is your body has what is known as an endocannabinoid system – this system needs cannabinoids to work.”

He said the endocannabinoid system played a part in most areas of the body, including mood, appetite, pain reception and more, and added: “By taking CBD supplements you are ensuring your body can repair itself as efficiently as possible.”

Mr Taylor said CBD was a rapidly-growing market and that people were seeing the benefits.

“It makes sense for us to open in a busy high street shopping centre such as the Cornmill because it seems to be the best place for us to speak with the community.”

All products on sale are completely legal, by falling within the legal limit of 0.2 per cent or under of tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the part of cannabis which provides a ‘high’.

The new shop will create about six jobs and will be just beside Topshop in the centre.

It will be open from 9am on Saturday.

A medication containing CBD oil is currently in the process of being licensed and is known to have benefits for children with two particularly rare forms of epilepsy.

But the NHS warns that some CBD products contain only a tiny amount, or that some bought online can contain THC, which can have harmful effects.
