A PARISH council is pressing ahead with its campaign to stop the closure of a rural County Durham GP surgery.

Trimdon Parish Council is calling on residents to sign a petition and attend a public meeting this month in an effort to halt the planned closure of Skerne Medical Practice’s Trimdon Village site.

Last month the group cited a national GP shortage the reason behind the proposal to close at least two surgeries across its four sites in Trimdon Village, Trimdon Colliery, Fishburn and Sedgefield from January.

Trimdon Parish Council pledged to fight the closure and call for improved services in Trimdon Village.

It is urging people to attend a public meeting due to take place in Trimdon Village Hall at 7pm on Thursday, November 15.

The authority is also asking residents to sign a petition which can be found online at facebook.com/SOStrimdonvillage

Council leader Cllr Paul Trippett said the authority wanted “a doctor’s surgery and a full range of primary health care services delivered in Trimdon Village”.
