‘MINDLESS’ vandals have wrecked two cabins at an amateur football club, leaving players of all ages robbed of precious facilities.

The portacabins at the Northallerton Town Football Club's grounds have been destroyed in an act of vandalism that was carried out overnight on Halloween.

Three football clubs, including junior sides, shared the cabins which were used for storage and as changing rooms.

The damage done has rendered them unusable and Northallerton Town FC’s chairman fears they will cost thousands to repair.

The Northern Echo:

Peter Young said all involved with the club had been left upset and angry by the actions of what is believed to be youths from the local area.

He said volunteers were now struggling to clear the mess left behind after the yobs broke into the cabins, smashed windows, pulled a door off and caused significant damage to the facilities.

Mr Young said: “This is a huge loss, these facilities were used by us, the Northallerton Juniors and the Northallerton Town Academy and none of us have got the money needed to replace the buildings, which are made valuable through their use.

“It could cost thousands and we’re very angry and upset, we believe it was probably teenagers from the local area who have snuck around the back out of the sight of CCTV and just ripped them to bits.

“It’s going to have a great impact and I just wish those responsible would think of the consequences of their actions.

“For the sake of them taking out their bad temper on something, or whatever has happened, it means so many people are affected, including the 200 kids who use the cabins.”

He added: “That’s life, I suppose, and we’ve just got to get on with it.

“We’ll find a way forward but it’s so expensive and costing a lot in resources – there’s a lot of angry people around.”

North Yorkshire Police are investigating the matter and appealing for information following the burglary and damage of the cabins, which were located at the football club on Ainderby Road in Romanby.

The vandalism is believed to have been carried out overnight between Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1.

Anyone with information about the crime or suspicious activity in the area should contact police on non-emergency number 101 quoting incident number 237 of 1 November 2018.
