A SHOPPING centre was evacuated after alarms were triggered on Wednesday afternoon.
Dozens of shoppers and retail staff were made to leave the Cornmill Shopping Centre in Darlington town centre at around 1pm.
Firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene, with one fire engine parked opposite the Priestgate entrance to the Cornmill.
Durham Police confirmed they had not been made aware of the incident.
Alarms could be heard in the town centre for around 20 minutes before ending at 1.20pm.
The entire shopping centre has since re-opened.
