JORDAN Burrow’s early winner proved the difference as York City edged out Blyth Spartans 1-0 at Croft Park to seal a place in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Burrow found the net for the sixth time in his last six games when he got on the end of Macaulay Langstaff’s near post centre after 11 minutes.

There was also a penalty save from Blyth goalkeeper Peter Jameson in the second half when Sean Newton was denied, although York were forced to defend strongly to hold onto their lead in the fourth qualifying round tie.

Blyth forced goalkeeper Adam Bartlett into a finger-tip save to deny Michael Liddle, there was a fine block from Joe Tait when Dan Maguire had an effort on goal and Robert Dale had a close range effort deflect over the bar.

York boss Sam Collins, whose side have kept three shut-outs in the Cup, knows his club have already collected £49,000 in prize money from the competition.

He said: “It’s fantastic for the club and I’m so pleased with the players’ attitudes, because they all worked really hard.

“We played better with the ball than we did at Southport, especially in the first half, but we still had to weather the storm as well, with Russ Penn putting two or three good blocks in, as Hamza (Bencherif) did when he came on and the way we defended our box was excellent. We stuck it and we’ve got a bit of momentum going now and, even if we haven’t played brilliantly, results breed confidence.”

City have now completed a hat-trick of consecutive victories for the first time since January.

NATIONAL League promotion rivals Harrogate Town and Wrexham will replay on Tuesday after a goalless FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Wetherby Road.

Harrogate had the better chances during the first half with Joe Leesley hitting the crossbar and Jordan Thewlis denied by Rob Lainton.

Mike Fondop had a goal for Wrexham ruled offside early in the second half.

Mark Beck headed over the crossbar in stoppage time for Harrogate.

Both sides will be in Monday's first round draw following a repeat of their 0-0 draw in the National League in September.

Wrexham will be aiming to reach that stage for the first time since the 2014-15 season while Harrogate last reached it in the 2012-13 season.

Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts said: "It pleases me to the extent that we've come to a side who are free scoring at home. That's two games that they have failed to score against us.

"Obviously I wanted to win the game but we just didn't have that last bit of quality. Ultimately it was a real solid performance. We're still in the hat and we're ready to rock and roll on Tuesday night."

Harrogate: Belshaw, Fallowfield, Falkingham, Burrell, Thomson (Agnew 76), Emmett, Leesley, Thewlis (Muldoon 66), Langmead, Williams (Beck 66), Kitching. Subs (not used): Howe, Cracknell, Kerry
