A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man found with serious injuries died.
Police were called to an address in Jasmine Terrace, Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, at about 11pm on Thursday night.
Emergency services attended the scene and the 45-year-old man was pronounced dead soon after.
The death is being treated as suspicious and a 42-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police believe this was an isolated incident between people who were known to each other.
"Extra officers are on patrol in the area this morning to reassure any residents concerned about the police activity."
