ORGANISERS of an initiative aimed at rescuing surplus food and using it to feed the community have thanked their supporters.

Food for Thought uses donations from supermarkets, businesses and individuals to create menus that are served up by volunteers at regular communal meals.

Ahead of their next event, organiser Louise Graham thanked supporters for their kindness in providing the time, energy and donations needed to help the project thrive.

Recently, Food for Thought has benefited from a harvest festival collection by Mowden School, donations from the Middleton St George branch of the WI and fundraising at We Shall Overcome, a live music event held at the Quakerhouse pub recently.

Ms Graham said there had also been a much-needed influx of donations of clothes and footwear that will be distributed to those in need at upcoming events.

The next Food for Thought meal will be served on a pay-as-you-feel basis at St Thomas of Aquinas Church Hall from 12.30pm until 2.30pm on Sunday, October 28.

All are welcome to attend, with visitors invited to enjoy a range of hot dishes and access essentials, advice and support where needed.

Donations of dried food, household goods, toiletries, clothing and footwear can be made in lieu of payment, with offers of voluntary help also welcomed.
