FORMER Sunderland manager Simon Grayson will help celebrate the the re-opening of the refurbished clubhouse at Bedale Sports Club at a charity evening.

Mr Grayson is part of the ‘Team Garby’ fundraisers who joined forces with Bedale AFC and Heck Food to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The team is made up of friends of Steve “Garby” Garbett, who died of the disease in 2014 and since then they have raised an incredible £174,513 for charity in his memory.

Heck sausages backed the cause and provided Bedale AFC with some sausage-patterned kits which bear the charity’s logo and donate 25 per cent of the money for each shirt sold to Prostate Cancer UK.

The next fundraising event will take place on November 2 at the clubhouse and will feature a performance from Ripon young musician of the year Freddie Cleary.

The food will be provided by Heck sausages, Hall’s chips and the Dales Hog Roast Company, all donated free of charge for the cause.

Funding for the club house refurbishments have come from the Hambleton District Council’s Making A Difference scheme, the county council Locality Budget and from reserves.

Tickets for the fundraising event are available from Martyn Coombs at martync55@gmail.com or 07885-228097.
