A NEW service has been launched to help people adapt their homes to cater for disabilities or frailty.
Hambleton District Council has joined forces with Yorkshire Housing’s Swale Home Improvement Agency to provide funds for a range of adaptations such as widening doors and fitting stair lifts and ramps.
Extra cash has also been given to the authority through the Better Care Fund to help address hazards associated with trips, falls and excess cold. This could mean help with central heating and boilers for people eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
Grants are available to Hambleton residents now and they do not affect any benefits received. This year the council has also agreed to remove the means test for cases where the cost of the adaptation is less than £5,000.
