A SCHOOL choir has created a hit record in a bid to raise much-needed funds for an Eaglescliffe teenager.

Evie Whittaker is determined to raise £75,000 to pay for specialist treatment as she continues her fight against cancer which has left the 19-year-old unable to move the left side of her body after suffering a stroke.

And the music-loving teenager is no longer receiving treatment and is now seeking Immunotherapy which is being offered in Germany.

Immunotherapy is new form of cancer therapy which works by helping the immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells – essentially triggering an immune response.

The song called Together We Stand features the secondary school’s pop choir Urban Voice and is currently in the top 50 in the iTunes Songs Chart.

The song was put together by Evie’s singing teacher Cherie Gears to help raise funds for the talented teenager.

"I started teaching Evie when she was 14 and she had a lovely voice," she said. "When she was 17 she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and it all happened so quickly. She had to go in for surgery but during the procedure she suffered a stroke has left her paralysed on the left hand side.

"Her illness really affected her vocal chords but she never stopped singing – it was her passion.

"While working with the choir, we decided that we should write a song for Evie and get it recorded.

"Everyone was being so helpful, the musicians and sound engineers all work for free and the song is now doing really well in the iTune charts.

"It was really good to be able to sing the song for Evie and we are really hoping that we will be able to help her raise enough money to get to Germany for treatment."

Writing on the page, the teenager said: "I’m no longer receiving treatment and am now hoping to raise the funds to receive immunotherapy treatment currently being offered in Germany. Chemotherapy treatment destroys cancerous and normal cells also, which can result in debilitating side / after effects. Immunotherapy is a way of treating disease by enhancing an immune response to help fight the cancer.

"This treatment is currently being offered in Germany, and we are hoping to raise £75,000 to fund the cost of this treatment."

Evie’s mum Paula said then how her daughter could have no further treatment in the UK.

She said: “It’s been a rough road – not just with her treatment, but some of her friends have passed away and that’s really difficult to cope with.

“But all we do is positive – we don’t ‘do’ negative.”
